The work of positive psychology has described how positive
emotions can create "upward spirals" in organizations. These
positive emotion spirals may help organizations to move forward with
goals, achieve harmony, create greater energy and flourish.
The word flourish literally means to thrive. Thriving in the workplace
(or other organization) comes from creating personal meaning in the
daily work experience of each team member. My coaching approach
builds on the unique character strengths of each individual in an
atmosphere of personal empowerment. Experiences of competence,
achievement, involvement, significance, gratitude and social
connection are the life blood of positive emotion in the workplace.
When individuals are in an environment of positive emotion - their
focus becomes wider. They become more creative, empathetic, and
flexible and often have much greater success in impacting the
organization in a positive way. They instinctively improve workplace
networks and environments. This can and does lead to exemplary
organizational outcomes.
My positive psychology team coaching approach uses as a basis the
"Broaden and Build Theory" (see reference link below). This
approach to team coaching helps create and sustain a variety of
positive emotions among team members. Positive emotions such as
pride, joy, contentment and gratitude keep individuals growing and
thriving. When surrounded with positive emotions, both individuals
and organizations maximize opportunities for development.
In our world of multi-tasking for peak productivity, are we really
allowing our organizations and team members to flourish? Are we
separating people from using their highest skills for the greater good
of the organization? Do our workers go home feeling empowered or
depressed? There an exciting new road to "doing more with less" by
creating an atmosphere of growth and connection through positive
emotion!
